Queen joins the King on 14 Group 1 victories

The Queen of world racing, Black Caviar, equalled Kingston Town’s Australian record of 14 Group 1 victories when she dashed to an effortless win in the MVRC William Reid Stakes (1,200m) at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

A capacity crowd packed into the course to catch a glimpse of the great mare extending her unbeaten record to 24, with streamers in her salmon and black colours showering the crowd as Black Caviar cantered over the finish line four lengths clear of placegetters Karuta Queen and Fawkner.

Black Caviar ($210,000 2008 Premier, 6m Bel Esprit-Helsinge) looked in career best condition heading to the start in front of the rousing crowd. When the gates opened jockey Luke Nolen eased the hulking mare outside leader and stablemate Karuta Queen before slipping her more rein into the straight and Black Caviar scooted away with consummate ease to claim another first prize.

Raced by G J & Mrs K J Wilkie, Werrett Bloodstock P/L Synd (Mgr: N Werrett), C & Mrs J Madden, P Hawkes & D M & Mrs J Taylor, the unmatched daughter of Bel Espirt has earned $7.35 million on the racetrack during her career.

"She’s going super. It’s scary how well she’s going," said trainer Peter Moody, who also selected the mare as a yearling from the 2008 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

"They didn’t go a tremendous speed there, but the way she let down you just run out of words.

"I’ve thought she was going as good as ever and I’m glad she’s proving me right. As a headline for our sport she’s second to none.

"The only thing that will stop her running will be wet tracks," added Moody.

Sydney racegoers will be hoping for clear skies over the next few weeks as the $1 million Group 1 ATC TJ Smith Stakes (1,200m) at Randwick on April 13 shortens as Black Caviar’s next assignment.

All eyes are expected to be on Black Caviar’s yearling half-brother earlier that week when he steps into Inglis’ Newmarket sale ring as Lot 131 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale on Tuesday April 9. The colt by Redoute’s Choice from Helsinge will be offered from the draft of Three Bridges Thoroughbreds on behalf of Gilgai Farm.

Vision of the highly anticipated colt will be made available on Inglis TV early next week.

After the TJ Smith many will be hoping Black Caviar might step up to the 1400m of the All Aged Stakes on April 27, where the world champion sprinter would clash with champion half-brother All Too Hard and Sydney’s champ More Joyous.
