Following on from the highly successful Inglis Premier sale at Oaklands Junction this month, Stallions Graeme Kelly, spoke to Inglis director Jonathan Darcy about the Inglis Easter sale and other matters.

Q.: You must be pleased with the catalogue put together for the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale

A.: We are delighted with the quality of yearlings that are going to be offered and in keeping with the exemplary standard of Easter, the catalogue for the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale is again without peer, with 614 lots to go under the hammer at Newmarket on April 6 to 8.

Q.: Can you name a few young stallions with strong representations

A.: We have yearlings catalogued by emerging stallions such as Dane Shadow (3), Al Maher (12), Lonhro (13), Fastnet Rock (44) and Charge Forward (3) to name but a few. While, the first season sires that have the opportunity to have yearlings catalogued are Aussie Rules (1), Darci Brahama (3), Excites (2), Fast ‘n’ Famous (4), Holy Roman Emperor (10), Nadeem (23), Pendragon (2) and Strada (2).

Q.:How does the offering compare with previous years

A.: I think this sale offers quality and trainers, agents and owners who attend the sale know they can expect to see the very best cross section of yearlings by a large group of stallions and the sale always throws up a high percentage of stakeswinners.

Q.: What is one of the many attractive features of this sale or any Inglis sale.

A.: Along with the quality stock on offer, Inglis, would like to think our link to a $2.6 million Inglis race series is another feature that has proven to be popular with owners and trainers.

Q.: Are there any innovations connected to the race series.

A.: Yes. The graduates of this will be the first racing participants to earn Racing New South Wales Rewards points. This can be done by insuring a purchase with Inglis Insurance and by paying up for the race series buyers can earn triple reward points. Q.: What are the highest profiled graduates from the sale so far this season.

A.: To mid-March Easter graduates had won 64 stakes races for the season, including the Group One winners Zipping, All Silent, Headway, Irish Lights, Road to Rock, Zavite, Rock Classic , Happy Zero and Wanted.

Q.: Presumably you are expecting buyers from right around Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, South Africa and England.

A.: There is no doubt that, as in previous years, the Easter sale will see a broad buying bench and we are expecting strong support from south-east Asia.

Q.: The Inglis Guineas at Scone in May is already shaping as a very exciting event

A.: The culination of the 2008 Inglis Race Series will take place at the outstanding Scone Cup meeting in May this year. The monies not won during the series have been added to the Scone Guineas prize money, meaning that the three-year-olds will be running for some $750,000. When you look at the three-year-old graduates who have come through the Inglis sales in 2008 the field could see the likes of Starspangledbanner, Irish Lights, Faint Perfume and Headway, to name just four Gr.1 winners. The race will certainly attract a top class field and it is a race for owners and trainers to start planning towards, if they have an eligible three-year-old.
