Race Fillies Boost Broodmare Sale

2nd Mar 2005

The 2005 Australian Select Broodmare Sale has received plenty of media attention in recent weeks owing to the inclusion of several high profile dispersals of bloodstock from Vinery, Inverness and Boscobel Studs.

“The presence of these major dispersals has undoubtedly added considerable appeal to this sale, resulting in the entry of a good number of quality race fillies and mares, offering buyers the option of racing their purchase for further gain, prior to embarking on a career at stud,” said Inglis Associate Director, Jonathan D’Arcy.

Fillies and mares (not part of dispersals) being offered at the 2005 Australian Select Broodmare Sale as racing and breeding propositions will be offered in a separate section on Tuesday 5th April.

“South Australian mare Danabaa is the standout in this new section, being a beautifully bred Group Two winning mare by a great sire in Anabaa,” added D’Arcy, who went on to highlight stakes-winners such as Classy Dane and Eire Hostess (NZ), who will also be extremely popular.

Other well-known performers being offered in this section include Group Three placed Sensational Spot and superbly bred three year old filly Sharp Aunty, a Group Two placed daughter of Flying Spur and stakes-winner True Blonde, a half-sister to the mighty Snippets.

Also good metropolitan mare Mimzical, with earnings in excess of $200,000, and last start metropolitan winner Klarissa, a close relation of Group One winners Bonanova, Telesto and Fraternity.

Victorian based vendors Contract Racing Pty Ltd have entered 15 outstanding broodmares and race fillies that will all be offered on Sunday 3rd April. The selection includes several talented types in the racing and breeding category such as stakes-winners Lady of the Desert, Crystal Wit and Group Three placed Twisted Heart.

The broodmares from Contract Racing are equally attractive and include: River Dove, winner of the 2003 MRC Oakleigh Plate Gr 1, served by Elusive Quality (USA) in her first season at stud; Miss Kournikova, winner of the 2001 MRC Oakleigh Plate Gr 1, served by Giant’s Causeway (USA); plus the dams of Group One winners Black Bean and Desert Eagle, both served by Redoute’s Choice.

Also stakes-winning Snippets mare Franjelica, covered by Redoute’s Choice in her first season at stud; Group Three winner Cosmic Strike covered by Redoute’s Choice in her first season at stud; and Group Three winner Gilded Angel covered by Giant’s Causeway (USA).

A full preview of the 2005 Australian Select Broodmare Sale will be published in Inglis Updates on Monday week.
