Racehorses in demand at March Thoroughbred Sale

Racehorses were in good demand at the 2013 Inglis Melbourne March Thoroughbred Sale today, just as a graduate of the Oaklands sale ring claimed the $170,000 Albury Gold Cup in the same afternoon.

A total of 254 lots sold for $1,191,450 during Friday’s sale at a 94 per cent clearance rate. 62 per cent of lots attracted on online bid, with 60 lots sold online.

Three hours north Niblick, which was purchased by his owner Emile Panossian as a tried horse from Oaklands last March, was declared the winner of the Listed Albury Gold Cup. The win was the galloper’s second win at stakes level this month.

“Race fillies, colts and geldings have always been popular in Melbourne and that was again the case today with plenty of action on Darley’s entries plus other well-credentialed lots,” said Inglis Melbourne Director Peter Heagney.

“It is great to see Niblick rewarding his owner so well since being purchased from Hudson Conway Racing at Oaklands and we wish all our buyers here today the best of luck with their new acquisitions,” Heagney added.

The highest price record on the day was for Group 2 placegetter Elusive King (Lot 277) which was purchased by Darby Racing for $62,000.

Offerings from Darley filled the next five top lots including Group 3 placegetter Giresun (Lot 176) which was sold for $55,000 to Kane Harris and city winning three-year-old Treaty (Lot 186) which was sold for $44,000 to Keith Arnold from the Northern Territory.

Horses that passed-in at today’s sale are still available for sale via Inglis’ Make-An-Offer Service

The next sale at Oaklands in Melbourne is the inaugural Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale, which will be conducted on 28 & 29 April 2013.

The new two day yearling sale will comprise a Select Session of 200 Super VOBIS eligible yearlings on Day One, followed by a General Session of 147 Super VOBIS and non-Super VOBIS yearlings on Day Two.

The VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale catalogue can be viewed online at www.inglis.com.au and on the Inglis Sales iPad app. Hard-copy catalogues can be requested by email to catalogue@inglis.com.au
