Rawiller – Devestated at missing Rosehill ride

This Saturday, Nash Rawiller will be in Perth to partner Sniper’s Bullet in the Group I Railway Stakes but before he arrives at Ascot he’ll be tuning in to watch one horse at Rosehill.

Rawiller said he was “devastated” when he learned that the John O’Shea-trained Foxwedge would make his debut on the same weekend he’d been committed to riding in Perth’s biggest race of the year.

Foxwedge is a two-year-old colt by Fastnet Rock, he is the second most expensive yearling ever sold by the sire, bringing $925,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale earlier this year (pictured as yearling).

Foxwedge made his first public appearance when Rawiller partnered the cracking colt in a 900 metre Rosehill barrier trial.

After travelling outside the lead for the first three quarters of the gallop, Foxwedge put eight lengths on his rivals over the final 200 metres of the heat, a performance that had Rawiller singing his praises.

“I think he’s the best one that’s around at the moment,” Rawiller said.

“I was pretty devastated I couldn’t ride him, I just hope I can get back on him down the track.

“The scary thing is he’s the sort of horse that hasn’t learnt how to switch on yet.

“The way he quickened was pretty good considering he’s not doing it at the drop of a hat yet.

“It wasn’t a case of him knowing what to do when he quickened, it was more me making him do it.”

Corey Brown is the man that has jumped into the Foxwedge hot-seat in Saturday’s Always Recycling Handicap (1100m).
