A record 439 runners have been nominated across the 16 races at Australia’s richest country racing carnival at Scone this weekend with nearly $2 million in prizemoney at stake.
“The nominations have never been this high. It’s the most noms we’ve ever had so it’s fantastic for the carnival,” said Sarah Wills, Scone Jockey Club CEO.
“Things are looking very good ahead of the carnival and it’s shaping up to be a fantastic two days. Marquee sales are at a record high.
“It reflects the interest people have for the two days and it’s the carnival that everyone wants to come to.”
Day One of the carnival on Friday will feature the $200,000, listed Emirates Park Scone Cup (1600m) where 21 horses have been nominated. The Cup has a field limit of 16 plus four emergencies.
On Day Two on Saturday, the $400,000 Inglis RL 3YO Guineas (1400m), with 20 nominatiins, highlights the day and backed up by the $200,000, Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) , 26 nominations, and a further four Listed races worth $140,000 each.
Wills said it is a meeting that no other country raceday can offer and she expects another huge crowd.
“It’s an opportunity for the horses to win some black-type,” she said. “I get nervous before the two days because I want everyone to enjoy themselves.”
The rail will be in the true position for each of the two eight race programmes.
The weather is forecast to be fine with cooler temperatures during the week with Thursday’s minimum between 2c and 6c with a high of between 15c and 19c.
