RECORD BREAKING INGLIS MELBOURNE PREMIER YEARLING CATALOGUE NOW ONLINE

3rd Jan 2008

The first major yearling sale on the eastern seaboard for 2008, the William Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale catalogue is now available online at www.inglis.com.au with a record number of 818 yearlings on offer, an increase of nearly 30% on last years record. The sale will commence on Sunday March 2 following the running of the $500,000 Inglis Premier Race at Caulfield on Saturday March 1, and will conclude on Thursday March 6.

Inglis managing director Mark Webster commented that, “The popularity of the sale has seen support from all the major studs in Australia which necessitated the sale being extended to 4 days – a first for The Melbourne Premier. Our numbers represent genuine growth and increased vendor support from last year. The Victorian breeding industry is on the rise and I’m sure buyers will be most impressed with the variety and quality of yearlings offered in our catalogue. With the success graduates from the sale are having, it is a must attend for all yearling buyers.”

Graduates of the Melbourne Premier yearling Sale have taken all before them in the past twelve months including a dominant spring carnival in Melbourne where Weekend Hussler and Arapaho Miss were standouts amongst the three-year-olds. Sacred Kingdom, recently announced the world’s best sprinter after an emphatic win in the Hong Kong International Sprint Gr 1 is also a graduate of the sale.

602 yearlings will be offered in Premier Session One (up from 504 in 2007) and 216 yearlings in Premier Session Two (up from 132 in 2007).

All of Australia’s leading stallions are represented including a quality draft of 9 yearlings by the former Victorian based Encosta de Lago whilst champion sire Redoute’s Choice has 6 yearlings catalogued.

Blue Gum Farm’s exciting international performer Elvstroem has the largest representation in the sale with his first crop of 50 yearlings.

He is closely followed by the former Yallambee and now Vinery resident Testa Rossa, who has 47 yearlings in the sale.

Last season’s leading Australian sire Flying Spur has 18 well bred yearlings, Hussonet, sire of Inglis Premier dual Group One winning graduate Weekend Hussler has 23 yearlings and Victorian based rising star Bel Esprit is well represented with 30 yearlings.

Proven stallions Anabaa, Commands, Danehill Dancer, Danzero, General Nediym, More Than Ready, Red Ransom, Royal Academy, Rubiton and Tale Of The Cat all have good representation whilst exciting young stallions Rock Of Gibraltar, Choisir, Dash For Cash, Elusive Quality, Exceed And Excel, Invincible Spirit and Johannesburg are all well represented.

Of the 22 first season sires, apart from the afore mentioned Elvstroem, Al Maher has the next largest draft with 26 followed by Chatswood’s Niello 21, Kempinsky 15, Delzao 13 and Fastnet Rock 13.

Whilst the stallion line up is exceptional, the broodmare representation is also of the highest standard.

Stakes winning mares Dandify, Magical Miss, Lady Knockout, Royal Sash, Miss Prospect, Shalt Not, Ain’t Seen Nothin, Ticket To Rome, La Rumba, Dashing Granada, Sunny Lane, Oregon Seal, Celestial Show, Kensington Palace, Belle Ball, Eccentricity, Northeast Sheila, Ladybird Blue, Rather Grand all have yearlings in the catalogue.
