The largest buying bench ever assembled at Oaklands for a weanling sale resulted in a record day of trade for the opening session of The William Inglis & Son Great Southern Sale.
The top price for a weanling sold in Victoria was attained with Ascot Farm of New Zealand outlaying $165,000 for lot 137, a bay colt by Encosta de Lago from That Kind Of Girl, a stakes placed daughter of Danehill(USA).
Buyers from New Zealand, Victoria, Western Australia, New South Wales and Queensland figured among the purchasers of the top dozen lots.
The gross for the opening session of $2,447,500 was up 39% from the corresponding session of 2006. The clearance rate of 88% was indicative of how competitive the market was.
