RECORDS TUMBLE IN PREMIER FINISH

The second session of the 2007 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale concluded today with record results for both average and aggregate franking its reputation for quality bloodstock.

Proving to be a highly successful adjunct to the first two days of sales the Premier II realised an average of $30,406, up a staggering 23% on 2006, and grossing $2,584,500 for 85 lots sold.

South Australian trainer, Tom Dabernig, believes he found a bargain with Lot 532, a General Nediym filly from Jeune mare Noble Glow, that he snapped up for a Premier II record price of $125,000.

“I reckon she's a lovely type and I was prepared to wait until the last day for her,” Tom enthused. “My uncle Peter Hayes trained the filly's dam, Noble Glow, and she won five races for him, so we're quite familiar with the family.”

Tom, who has 25 horses in work, added that he has also enjoyed considerable success with yearlings prepared by Bill Cockram's Glentree Downs, who consigned the General Nediym filly.

Other Session II highlights include a Lago Delight colt (Lot 522) sold to Hong Kong for $75,000, and a Tobougg filly (Lot 591) knocked down to leading trainer Robbie Griffiths for $72,500.

“We couldn't be happier with the results from both the first and second sessions of the 2007 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale,” Inglis Director, Peter Heagney, summarised. “Each session has achieved record averages and aggregates and proves once more that Melbourne attracts both quality bloodstock and, certainly, in this year's case, a large number of buyers from throughout the globe.”

The Inglis Autumn Thoroughbred Sale will be conducted at William Inglis & Son's Newmarket complex this Friday (9 March), commencing at 11am.
