Red Arrow flies Aussie flag

Vinery sire Red Ransom added another stakes winner to his name after Red Arrow claimed his first group victory when he won the G3 Los Angeles Handicap (1200m) on Saturday night, defeating Paul's Hope (Lake Austin), and fellow Australian galloper Dehere Again (Dehere).

Now trained by John Sadler after starting his career with Anthony Cummings, Red Arrow (5h Red Ransom-Lady Jakeo by Last Tycoon) speared straight to the front after the gates opened and was never headed, cruising to victory by just under a length in 1.8.92s.

Red Arrow was last seen in Australia when third to Commanding Hope (Commands) in the G3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in August last year. A $225,000 purchase at the 2005 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Red Arrow is a half-brother to stakes winner Able Choice (Redoute's Choice) from former star race mare Lady Jakeo, a dual G1 winning daughter of Last Tycoon. Lady Jakeo has not had a foal since 2006, but was served by Wattle Brae Stud's first season sire Court Command last year.

Dehere Again made an encouraging US debut to finish third. The former Gai Waterhouse trained galloper was purchased by Aussie bloodstock agent Craig Rounsefell, who runs Boomer Bloodstock and is now trained by Mike Mitchell. He was originally purchased for $180,000 at the 2007 Inglis Premier Sale and is the second winner for G2 STC Reisling Slipper winner Let's Rock Again (Chief's Crown). Dehere Again won two of four starts in Australia before being exported to the US on March 1 this year. Let's Rock Again has a weanling filly by Tale Of The Cat and was served by Eliza Park sire Bel Esprit.
