Well placed three-year-old Red Excitement collected his second $50,000 Inglis Race Series Bonus this year when he won today’s One Com Inglis Bonus 3YO Handicap over 1600m at Gosford
Red Excitement ($32,500 2011 Classic, 3g Excites-Red Obsession) began well to sit outside the lead, before jockey Jenny Duggan took up the running at the 1100m mark, rated the galloper a treat and sprinted away in the straight to a one and a half victory over Empress Elect, with Aghamore back in third.
“We selected him ourselves from Classic as we think it is a great sale to look at first season sires and we liked Excites,” part-owner Glenn Williams said.
“This is the second Inglis Bonus we have won with him. Today’s bonus meant the race was worth the equivalent of a Listed race at Randwick of Saturday.”
In winning the race the Inglis Classic graduate collected $12,250 in regular first prizemoney, a $5,000 BOBS Bonus and $50,000 Inglis Race Series Bonus. The $67,250 total was more than any of the four individual black-type winners collected on the Randwick card yesterday.
As Williams pointed out today’s Bonus was the second $50,000 Inglis Race Series cheque that Red Excitement has won for his connections, after the gelding scored another lucrative win in the Lightning Ridge 2YO Plate at Canberra in February.
The Gosford win took Red Excitement’s race record to 12 starts for four wins and two placings, with earnings of $182,950. A great return on the $32,500 he cost as a yearling in Sydney.
Bred by Evergreen Stud Farm, Mr L Nestadt & Mr B Kantor, Red Excitement was purchased from the draft of Evergreen Stud Farm at the 2011 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale by Glenn and Viive Williams, who race the gelding in partnership with Laing Racing.
The Williams’ have chased many of the lucrative Inglis Race Series Bonuses with gallopers trained by good friend Neville Layt, with the team also winning a $100,000 Bonus with One More Grand at Rosehill two years ago.
The Inglis Race Series moves to Moonee Valley this coming Saturday October 27, with the running for the $250,000 Inglis Banner over 1000m for two-year-olds. This year’s running of the valuable juvenile event will be the first time the race has carried black-type, following the recent official stamp of approval by the Australian Pattern Committee and Australian Racing Board for upgrade to Restricted Listed status.
Sunday October 28 will see the running of the $100,000 Inglis Trophy (0-82) Handicap over 1400m for three-year-olds at Sale in Victoria.
Both the Inglis Banner and Inglis Trophy are restricted to horses nominated into the Inglis Race Series.
