Redoute's Choice Filly Impresses On Debut

Breednet - Mark Smith - Saturday, 1 January 2011

Punters were on the ball when sending out first starter Glissade a $2,25 favourite in Saturday’s Autumn Carnival On Sale Now Handicap (1000m) at Royal Randwick.

From an inside barrier Kerrin McEvoy drove the daughter of Redoute’s Choice to share the lead with Anabaa gelding Griff but she quickly dropped him before the turn and held on strongly to defeat Swerte Bella (Charge Forward) by a length an a half with Queenian (Dubleo) another half length back in third.

The Sheikh Mohammed homebred rates among the best of Darley’s juveniles according to trainer Peter Snowden.

“I honestly think she’s my best one,” Snowden said.

“We’re lucky enough that we’ve got two other fillies that have won quite well,” Snowden said.

“It’s her attitude, only the better ones have the attitude, but it is only one race and I’m not going to get too carried away with it.

“I like what I saw today but there’s a lot more to do with her.”

“Being a daughter of Redoute’s Choice you look forward to these fillies being good because their residual value is enormous and it’s good to have in our breeding barn,” Snowden said.

“Right from day one she’s shown good ability. “You get excited about some horses early and they let you down, but this filly has always shown good ability and it’s good to see her start off her career like that.”

Snowden indicated Glissade would likely have just one more start this preparation

“I’d like to give her one more in a fortnight and make up my mind then if we look to the Blue Diamond or give her a two week break and bring her back for the better fillies races,” Snowden said.

“She is a tad early. She’s in that in between time at the moment and the next run will tell us what we do.”

Glissade is the first foal of the Zabeel mare Steflara who earned her sire his 100th stakes-winner when she captured the Group 3 Breeders’ Classic at Randwick in 2006.

Bred by Jim Ryan and sold through the Philippa Duncan Bloodstock draft at the 2002 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling sale, Steflara was knocked down to Jason Abrahams for $170,000.

She is out of the Bluebird mare Blue Storm, a dual Group 3 sprint winner who finished fourth in the STC Coolmore Classic (G1) . Blue Storm is out of the top-class John's Hope mare My Gold Hope the winner of 11 races including the AJC Doncaster.

Steflara has a yearling filly by Redoute’s Choice and a colt foal by Street Cry. She was bred back to Medaglia D'Oro in 2010.
