APACHE Cat may be headed for a rematch with surprise Hong Kong Sprint winner Inspiration in next month's Lightning Stakes at Flemington.
Trainer Greg Eurell, proud yet frustrated after Apache Cat's close-up third to 66-1 shot Inspiration on Sunday, said yesterday the horse was booked to return to Australia next Monday and would spend three weeks in quarantine at Sandown.
"He will have a quiet first week at Sandown. Then we can work him along and he would go into the Lightning fresh," he said.
Trainer John Moore is keen to run Inspiration in the 1000m Lightning on January 31.
Eurell said Apache Cat's 2009 program might be a mirror of this year when he won the Lightning, Australia Stakes, T. J. Smith, BTC Cup and Doomben 10,000.
The alternative would be two Melbourne runs, then a trip to Singapore and England.
TRAINER Lee Freedman will front the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board over a positive swab returned by one of his horses.
A sample taken from Discorsi before he ran second in a Geelong barrier trial on September 15 contained the anti-inflammatory Flunixin.
