Rick Hore-Lacy will set his promising colt Chase The Rainbow on a Caulfield Guineas path after securing a $50,000 Inglis Race Series bonus at Geelong today.
The 3YO Vase was for 0-72 raters (1300m) and run on the Geelong Synthetic track after being transferred from Seymour earlier this week.
CHASE THE RAINBOW ($90,000 2010 Premier, 3c Dash For Cash-Illusional) was coming off a maiden win at the same venue and recouped his purchase price in one fell swoop today, with the bonus added to the $31,000 first prize and a $23,000 Super Vobis bonus.
Hore-Lacy knows plenty about Chase The Rainbow’s pedigree, having trained both his sire Dash For Cash and damsire Redoute’s Choice to Group 1 glory, so it wasn’t surprising to see him select the colt out of the Swettenham Stud draft at last year’s Premier Sale.
Chase The Rainbow will now be afforded his chance in better company, with the trainer eyeing off a start in the Caulfield Guineas in October.
“His sire Dash For Cash won an Australian Guineas, his mum is by Redoute’s Choice, who won a Caulfield Guineas, so he’s got a Guineas pedigree,” Hore-Lacy said.
“He’s a very relaxed horse and I think he will get 2000m in time.”
This was the first three-year-old bonus opportunity for 2010 yearling graduates in the $2.6million race series.
2010 graduates have two opportunities to secure Inglis Race Series bonuses in October. A $50,000 bonus is available in a Benchmark 65 (1600m) race at Gosford on October 16 and then a $100,000 Bonus is on the line in the 3YO Inglis Trophy (0-82 Hcp, 1400m) at Sale on October 23.
The first opportunity for 2011 yearling sale graduates comes up in the $250,000 Inglis Banner, to be run at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate day, October 22.
