Road Rocks Them In Main Event

*Racing And Sports- Nathan Exelby - Saturday, 26 September 2009: Today's

George Main Stakes kind of went according to the script – with a son of Encosta De Lago winning the feature mile.

The only problem for punters was that it was the unheralded Road To Rock who took the spoils, rather than odds-on favourite Racing To Win.

Trainer Anthony Cummings, who secured Road To Rock for $100,000 out of the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, was keen to tell anyone who listened this week that the five-year-old was a genuine chance in the George Main.

But few took him seriously and Road To Rock paid upwards of $41 on most totes.

He becomes the 16th individual Group 1 winner for his sire Encosta De Lago .

Road To Rock is from the Midyan mare Trewornan, who is now a member of the extensive Patinack Farm broodmare band and she was covered by Casino Prince last year.

At this year's Easter Sale, her Snitzel filly sold for $95,000, while at last year's New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Sale, a Flying Spur filly made $300,000.

This was Road To Rock's third win at stakes level and he will now be strongly fancied to win next week's Group 1 Epsom Handicap.

He had shown Group 1 potential last season, when close up in races like the Australian Cup, Ranvet Stakes and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, but has seemingly gone to the next level this time in.
