Road Trippin claims $50,000 Bonus on Albury Guineas

Twelve months ago Gai Waterhouse travelled Fat Al 550kms to claim the Myer Albury Guineas. Today the 1400m three-year-old event and lucrative Inglis Race Series Bonus that goes with it was won by the aptly named Road Trippin trained by Stephen Theodore.

Road Trippin ($22,500 2011 Premier, 3g Charge Forward-Road To Damascus) has certainly clocked up the kilometres since his debut in the Inglis Banner in October 2011 and today was his biggest payday, collecting $29,660 first place prizemoney and a $50,000 Inglis Race Series Bonus.

The son of Charge Forward can count a second placing to Snitzerland in the Inglis Premier at Mornington amongst his travels which have spanned 11 tracks across three Australian states.

Purchased by trainer Stephen Theodore for just $22,500 at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Road Trippin has now earned $235,660 in his 16 career starts which include three wins and four placings.

Theodore has also purchased both of Road Trippin’s two younger siblings at subsequent Melbourne Premier Yearling Sales; the stakes winner Crack A Roadie (by Charge Forward) and their current yearling half-brother by Manhattan Rain.

Road Trippin set a new Class Record when winning the Myer Albury Guineas over 1400m by 2.8 lengths today, a fine effort considering the track was rated Heavy.

The three-year-old is raced by Mr F J Welsford, Mrs S J Welsford, Mr G A Kemp, Mr T T Christian, Hail, Mr M S Cox, Mr T D Murphy, Mr C Alsemgeest and Hit The Line Racing.

Last year’s Myer Albury Guineas winner Fat Al went on to win the Group 1 ATC Epsom Handicap as a four-year-old, so today’s winner is following in big footsteps.

This week stands as a busy one for the Inglis Race Series, with a $100,000 Inglis Race Series Bonus up for grabs for 2011 Inglis Graduates nominated and paid for the Inglis Race Series on Race 8 at Caulfield tomorrow.

The lucrative series then now moves to Bendigo next month with the running of the $100,000 2YO Inglis Gold Plate, which is restricted to horses offered at the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Autumn Yearling Sale and paid up into the Inglis Race Series.

Racing Victoria has kindly added a $20,000 VOBIS Gold Bonus to the Inglis Gold Plate at Bendigo on Saturday 20 April 2013, in addition to the $30,000 in Super VOBIS Bonuses already available on the event.

Buyers next chance to purchase a yearling for entry into the $5million Inglis Race Series comes up at next month’s Easter Yearling Sale, the sale Fat Al was purchased from for just $27,000.

569 lots have been catalogued for this year’s three day Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney on April 9, 10 and 11, including 7 yearlings by Fat Al’s sire Al Maher and 8 yearlings by Road Trippin’s sire Charge Forward.
