Robust foundation set at inaugural VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale

245 yearlings have been sold at the inaugural Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale in Melbourne, setting a robust foundation on which to grow in future years.

“Today’s predictable results further highlighted what we have seen throughout our Select Yearling Sales, with great competition on athletic types that have been well presented,” said Inglis Director Peter Heagney.

“It was pleasing to see vendors who offered professionally prepared yearlings with acceptable conformation being suitably rewarded.

“Overall, the sale has given us an excellent foundation on which to build and capitalise on the tremendous benefits available for Super VOBIS qualified yearlings,” said Heagney.

102 yearlings were sold during the General and Supplementary Sessions on Monday for $631,250 at a clearance rate of 74%.

The top price recorded today was in the General Session when Lyndhurst Farm from New Zealand paid $36,000 for Mayfield Thoroughbreds’ colt by Holy Roman Emperor from Rule the Waves (Lot 211).

The second highest price paid on the day was for Ultra Thoroughbreds’ colt by Undoubtedly from Group 3 winner Strikeline (Lot 224) which was snapped for $28,000 by Katherine Hughes Racing. The Malaysia based stable finished as the leading individual buyer at the VOBIS Gold Sale having signed for three yearlings for $82,000.

Buyers from all across Australia were active over the two days of selling at the new sale, as were purchasers from Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and New Zealand.
