Butter Blonde – in foal to Home Affairs – topped today’s successful Australian Broodmare Sale Session at $350,000, one of 12 fillies or mares to realise six figures.
Today’s session capped off a robust Inglis Digital May (Early) Online Sale which grossed $5,604,750, making it the most lucrative May (Early) auction in the platform’s history.
Offered by Merricks Station, Butter Blonde sold to Twin Hills Stud.
Merricks Station’s Ben Cooper was thrilled with the outcome, describing it as his “best ever result’’ with Inglis Digital.
“She was a timely mating with Home Affairs being red hot at the moment and presented us with a good trade opportunity with Inglis Digital but if we didn’t get what we wanted for her, we were more than happy to keep her with us but as I expected, there was significant interest in her and she sold accordingly,’’ Cooper said.
“Working with Inglis Digital makes it so easy, particularly with mares like her that you’re happy to retain if you don’t make your price, you don’t have to shop them around anywhere, they can just stay in their paddock which makes life a whole lot easier.
“[Inglis Bloodstock Sales Manager] Will [Stott] was great through the whole process, the service was excellent and thus the experience a very positive one.’’
Twin Hills’ Olly Tait added: “We’re delighted to get her. We had a group of us that owned a mare called Madame Cactus and she’s finished her time and we thought we’d reinvest and this mare came up on our radar, with a nice covering to Home Affairs who looks very exciting and she comes from a fantastic family.
“We were prepared to pay the $350,000 only because mares like her with a nice covering, they have a value and that value is often quite a lot of money but we were prepared to pay it because she’s a lovely package and one we really wanted.’’
Today’s second-top lot was the 6YO mare Bubba’s Bay, which sold to CB Racing - in consultation with Portia Baronian - for $185,000.
Bubba’s Bay was offered by her owner Adrian Pazman, who was pleased with the result.
“I’m happy with that and I’m sure she’ll make a really good mum,’’ Pazman said.
“[Inglis Bloodstock Sales Manager] Harry [Bailey] is excellent, we’ve bought a lot of horses through Harry and if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be buying anything like the amount I do buy.’’
Bubba’s Bay will likely be retired and sent to Coolmore’s latest acquisition Super Seth.
Today’s third-top lot was the 13YO broodmare Kinshachi, which sold to Craig Rounsefell’s Boomer Bloodstock for $175,000.
Kinshachi was one of 45 Godolphin race fillies and broodmares sold in today’s session, for an overall return of $1,268,000.
“We were pleased with the overall result, the draft turned over almost $1.3m and there was good competition on a number of mares throughout the sale,’’ Godolphin Australia’s Racing and Bloodstock Manager Jason Walsh said.
“We thought the draft was well matched on the Inglis Digital platform and the market responded accordingly. There was healthy competition on a number of mares and the results were reflective of that.’’
Other significant results in today’s Australian Broodmare Sale Session included Meseika ($160,000), Smirnova ($155,000), Influenza ($125,000), Twilight Zone ($120,000), Zelify ($120,000), She’s The Gift ($110,000), Alexandrine ($105,000), Serene Majesty ($100,000), Your Time ($100,000) etc.
Today’s Australian Broodmare Sale Session grossed $4,095,300, with the results taking the number of $100,000+ lots sold on Inglis Digital since 2025 to 170.
