Rostova Remains Unbeaten In Prelude

Racing And Sports - Alex Steedman - Sunday, 8 February 2009

Boom filly Rostova has made it three wins from as many career starts in today's fillies Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) and the streak does looks tough to stop as she heads to the main event in a fortnight.

Rostova was one of the first into stride but was immediately restrained to sit midfield by jockey Steven King.

It was a convincing display by the Testa Rossa filly who was eased to the outside as the field swung for home. Rostova was a joint leader in a matter of strides upon straightening along with Lee Freedman-trained Corsaire.

With minimal effort, the filly kicked away inside the final furlong and was eased up near the line to record a dominant 2.5 length win.

More Than Ready filly Rose Darmore finished a further length back in third.

Rostova from her three career starts has as many wins and over $200,000 in earnings to her credit.

With today's convincing performance, the Steve Richards-trained two-year-old remains favourite for the Blue Diamond in a fortnight.

“We'll just bring on the Diamond and wait for that,” Richards said. “We've got one less sleep now with putting the races back one day.”

“This run was always planned to bring her up today, she improved from the other day and she can only improve a little more.

“She's the best I've come across in terms of her constitution and the things she does, she's just incredible.”

Regular rider Steven King was also quick to praise the filly, despite often being difficult for the seasoned jockey during trackwork.

“She's certainly not the easiest of rides track mornings,” King said.

“Every day she tests you, every day she tries to drop you. That's why I've been on her everyday, you can't afford to have a day off of her.”

“But on race days she seems to relax and become a racehorse. The good thing is she has been winning and learning what it is all about and she has another big step up next start against the boys.”
