Royal Finish To Inglis Jackpot Bonus

26th Jul 2014

The $5 million Inglis Race Series for graduates of Inglis’ 2012 Select Yearling Sales came to a joyous finish at Randwick today with Royal Jackpot taking home the last $100,000 Bonus.

Due to a few bonuses not going off during the series a $100,000 “first-past-the-post” bonus was made available to Inglis Race Series nominated gallopers on the 3YO Benchmark 75 Handicap over 1400m.

Royal Jackpot (Not A Single Doubt x Royal Amarco), a $40,000 purchase by Canberra trainer Matt Dale from Phalaris Stud at the 2012 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale, was one of seven runners carrying an Ingils saddlecloth to indicate they were eligible for the bonus.

Dale’s runner finished the best of the seven in fourth position just ahead of $6,500 Scone purchase Poetic Debate to take home the big prize.

“It's an unusual feeling to be cheering so hard for a horse running fourth. I was keeping an eye on the other Inglis runners in the race. I knew it was close in the end, but once they put it up on the screen, I knew we got there,” Dale said.

"My horse had to jump a few grades today and he did that. He was entered for a race at Goulburn on Tuesday where he would have started a short-priced favourite, but we thought we'd have a crack at today given the circumstances,” added Dale.

The decision has paid very handsomely with the $100,000 Inglis Race Series Bonus taking Royal Jackpot’s career earnings past $135,000 from six starts.

2012 Inglis Yearling Sale graduates kicked-off their Inglis Race Series on Cox Plate Day back in October 2012 with Crack A Roadie winning the $250,000 Inglis Banner. Back in third place was Shamus Award, which would return to Moonee Valley twelve months later and lead all the way in the Group 1 MVRC W.S. Cox Plate as a three-year-old.

Additional 2012 sale graduates to win Inglis Race Series events include Twilight Royale, Marseille Roulette, Everage, Bold Eavey, Chosen Song, Sweet Serendipity, Best Case, The Quarterback, Jessy Belle, Ryker, Crime Fighter and Cosmic Endeavour.

Nominations for the $5 million Inglis Race Series for horses offered during the 2014 Inglis Select Yearling Sales Series close on 31 July 2014. Both sold and passed-in yearlings are eligible to be entered.

It pays to enter the series, just ask the connections of today’s second placegetter Coolring which would have collected the $100,000 “first-past-the-post” Bonus if he was paid up for the series. Unfortunately connections chose not to pay the $2,585 entry fee two years ago.
