Ruane, Menangle’s prolific thoroughbred nursery is ending its chapter in Australian breeding and racing history with an unreserved dispersal sale to be held during the Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale on 3, 4, 5 and 6 May 2015.
The farm’s patriarch John Baxter is looking forward to offering buyers the opportunity to acquire some of the quality broodmares and race fillies that the farm has been renowned for over the last 25 years.
“There is no greater thrill than the success of breeding and racing thoroughbreds and I am sure these horses will give their new owners great rewards,” said Baxter.
“I’ve had a lot of fun being involved in this incredible industry for many years, but I’m looking forward to handing over the baton and watching others enjoy similar successes,” Baxter said.
During Ruane’s time as a thoroughbred nursery, it bred and raced Group 1 Oakleigh Plate winner With Me, which then produced Group 1 Doomben 10,000 and Group 1 AJC Galaxy winner Accomplice.
Other stakes performers bred on the farm include last year’s Group 2 SAJC Centrebet Classic winner Lonhspresso, VRC Creswick Stakes winner Quarante Love, Gosford Pacesetter Stakes winner Flirtatious Me, Hong Kong Group 1 winner Happy Zero and stakes winner Triumphant Unicorn, in addition to stakes performers Deep Pockets, With My and Major Canny.
Another product of the Baxter family’s breeding programme is Maid For Me who produced the Golden Slipper placegetter Bring Me The Maid last season.
One of the farm’s star graduates is the multiple Victorian Group performer and Tasmanian Oaks winner Marchelle Belle who was sold by Ruane at Easter in 2007 for $640,000 and then bought back as a broodmare at the end of her racing career in 2011. Her yearling filly by So You Think will be offered amongst Ruane’s draft of three fillies at the 2015 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
Marchelle Belle and her weanling filly by Sebring will be offered at the Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale. Also part of the dispersal are stakes winning Danzero mare Breakcard and her Sebring weanling filly, as well as Group 3-placed mare Maybe I and her All Too Hard weanling filly.
A total of 19 broodmares will be offered in foal to a select group of commercial stallions including Sebring, All Too Hard, Denman, Smart Missile, Zoustar, All American, Casino Prince and Albrecht.
Six two-year-old and three-year-old race fillies will be offered at the sale including All Day Baby, a daughter of More Than Ready from the stakes winning mare Translate, and fillies by High Chaparral, Lonhro and Canny Lad.
The 16 strong weanling draft includes lots by Sebring, All Too Hard, Charge Forward, Smart Missile, Stratum, Nicconi and Snippetson.
Entries for the Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale must close by 5pm this Friday, 20 March.
