Russeting Caps Stellar Group 1 Season For Inglis Graduates

Inglis graduates finished the 2008-09 racing season just as they started it - with Group 1 victory - as Russeting scored in today's G1 $500,000 Winter Stakes at Eagle Farm.

The daughter of Commands gave Inglis graduates a 24th Group 1 victory in Australia for the season, making the company Australia's Group 1 leader once again.

This season's tally eclipses the figures of 19 and 21 which also made Inglis the leading agent for Group 1 winners on the domestic front in the previous two seasons.

Classic graduate Typhoon Zed took out the season's first Group 1 race last September and another 23 Group 1 events have been added since, capped by today's finale at Eagle Farm.

Consigned for sale as a yearling by Kooringal Stud, RUSSETING ($90,000 2006 Classic, 4m Commands-Granny Apple) was previously a Listed winner earlier this campaign for previous trainer Donald Baker and the mare has now won nine races in 23 starts for earnings topping $500,000.

She was having her first start for legendary trainer Bart Cummings today after recently being sold as a broodmare prospect.

In addition to Typhoon Zed, the Classic Sale also produced G1 Caulfield Guineas winner Whobegotyou this season.

Group 1 winners also came from the Autumn and Premier Yearling Sales in Melbourne, the famed mixed sale where Takeover Target was secured by Joe Janiak and Easter, whose graduates claimed 14 G1 events in Australia this season.

Stradbroke winner Black Piranha also highlighted Inglis weanling graduates with his success in the $1million sprint a fortnight ago.

The next opportunity to secure Inglis stars of tomorrow begins this Thursday, June 25, with the Australian Weanling & Breeding Stock Sale to be held over two days at Newmarket.

The catalogue also includes 59 Supplementary entries.

Horses will arrive on Monday, with inspections to be carried out throughout the week, before the New Sire Showcase on Thursday morning, ahead of the Breeding Stock Section, beginning from 11am.

The weanlings will then follow on Friday, June 26 from 10am.
