Racenet - Clinton Payne - Saturday, 13 November 2010
Gerald Ryan’s talented filly Saramenha has made it two impressive wins on the trot when she romped home in the Kyle & Jackie O Show Handicap (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
Ryan said the daughter of his former top juvenile Snitzel is on target for a start in next year’ s Golden Slipper having already earned $125,800, of which $85,800 counts towards Slipper qualification.
“There’s a race here next Saturday and if she does well she might back-up,” Ryan said. “If she happens to win again next week she’s going to the Golden Slipper.
“We’ll just give her one run leading into the race in the autumn.”
After beginning the best of the seven-horse field, Saramenha took up the running and travelled kindly before jockey Nathan Berry asked for the supreme effort 300 metres from home and she scooted clear to win by a widening margin.
“I stressed to Nathan not to go before the 300 metre mark because I didn’t want her to have too hard a run,” Ryan said.
“She’s improving with the racing experience.
“Early on she was a bit revvy wanting to get things over and done with.
“She’s settling better now and she went good today.”
Saramentha defeated two debutants, Dream Choice from the David Payne stable and the Peter Snowden-trained Eleuther.
What they said – “She improved so much off her last start, she was so much more relaxed today. I reckon she’ll be a much better horse ridden with a sit too – She’ll explode,” said winning jockey, Nathan Berry.
“He’s a lovely little horse, the utmost professional and that will win him his fair share of races,” said Brad Pengelly, jockey of the second placegetter, Dream Choice.
“He’s not as natural as his mother [Mnemosyne] but the racing will bring him right on,” said Josh Parr, jockey of the third placegetter, Eleuther.
