Promising unbeaten colt Top Score will give trainer John Sargent a guide to his future prospects when he takes on a strong form race at Rosehill on Saturday.
Top Score, a superbly-bred son of High Chaparral will clash with four other last start winers and others with strong metropolitan form in the Grange Wyoming, BM 68 event over 1300m.
Top Score’s dam Sarasota is a sister to G1 winner and champion sire Fastnet Rock and showed he had inherited plenty of the family ability when he won on debut over 1100m at Warwick Farm on October 14, powering through the line like a horse certain to appreciate the extra 200m on Saturday.
Sargent has since given Top Score a soft barrier trial at Randwick on October 30 with the colt finishing third in his heat over 1050m.
“It was just a day out for him,” Sargent said. “I gave him the trial because he’s still a bit green which he showed in his first race.
“He’s got a lot of raw ability and I think he’ll eventually run a nice mile.
“He’s an emerging colt and he’s starting to relax. He’ll enjoy a nice big track and I’m not worried about its condition either.
“I think he’ll handle it if it’s wet.”
Sargent is already looking ahead to the autumn with Top Score.
“This will probably be his last run this preparation and will tell me more about what standard of three-year-old races we’ll aim him at in the autumn,” Sargent said.
Sargent is taking a strong team to Rosehill on Saturday with Queen Of Kariba, Centre Pivot, Ziggy Willie, Banksters Bonus and Swift Lady engaged in other races.
