Sarthemare Delivers For New Owners

Racing And Sports - Monday, 24 August 2009

After a stint of 545 days out of the winning circle, former Listed Black Opal winner Sarthemare gave her new owners a positive start by winning at Doomben on Saturday.

New trainer Danny Williams had meticulously prepared for the first up assignment, giving the four-year-old daughter of Street Cry three barrier trial hitouts in Queensland before sending her to the races on Saturday.

Sarthemare's only previous win came in last year's Black Opal.

From the Citidancer mare City Liffey, Sarthemare was originally sold for just $12,000 by Meringo Stud at the 2007 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

She returned to the Inglis Newmarket Sales complex at this year's Australian Broodmare Sale, where she fetched $100,000.

Street Cry returns to Australia off a fee of $110,000 this year and the Machiavellian stallion looks set to enjoy his time in the spotlight this spring with his star four-year-olds Predatory Pricer and Whobegotyou making slashing returns in last week's Liston Stakes.

As a Listed winning daughter of Street Cry and being free of Danehill blood, Sarthemare shapes as a handy broodmare proposition and Saturday's $28,000 first prize was a handy start for the new connections, Howard and Judy Blight from Bendaree Park Stud.
