Scissor Shows Superior Kick In The Rosebud

Lightly raced three-year-old Inglis graduate Scissor Kick came with a strong finishing burst to win the Listed ATC The Rosebud over 1200m at Randwick on Saturday.

Scissor Kick (Redoute’s Choice x Back Pass) was making a big jump from a mid-week victory a few weeks ago to stakes class today, but he revelled on the bigger track to score from Better Land and Inkling.

Both trainer and jockey feel the flashy colt is going to improve with more distance heading towards the Group 1 ATC Golden Rose (1400m) and upwards.

"He is a very nice horse, he looks a picture and he does everything right. I keep thinking these races are going to be too short for him. He is one of those horses that you get a surprise when he goes to the races, which tends to happen with the good ones," said jockey Tye Angland.

"It was a big effort today. He always gives us the impression he wants a bit further as he’s such a casual customer. He’ll go towards the Golden Rose and then maybe Melbourne,” added trainer Paul Messara.

Scissor Kick was bred by Jonathan Munz’s G.S.A Bloodstock, which raced the colt’s stakes winning brother Sharkbite.

Offered through the draft of Broadwater Thoroughbreds at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Scissor Kick was purchased for $200,000 by Paul Messara on behalf of Arrowfield Stud, with breeder Jonathan Munz buying back into the son of Redoute’s Choice.

With two wins from three starts Arrowfield and Munz are set for a big campaign with Scissor Kick.

The yearling half-brother by High Chaparral to Scissor Kick is among the star studded entries for the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Scissor Kick is the 116th stakes-winner for Arrowfield Stud’s champion stallion Redoute’s Choice, which had 22 yearlings sell for an average $380,000 at this year’s Inglis Easter Sale.
