Scone Average up 34%

The Scone Select Yearling Sale today opened with improved numbers across the board in an excellent day’s trade.

In all today’s first session grossed $2.737million – up $680,000 on last year’s figures. The average climbed by 34% to $17,433. The clearance rate currently stands at 81%.

“This sale goes from strength to strength and we were forced into going to two days for the first time this year owing to the great response from vendors,” Inglis Bloodstock Director Jonathan D’Arcy said.

“Racetrack results from the sale have been outstanding in recent times and I think that success has filtered through to the sale ring, with a number of new buyers keen to secure a Scone yearling.

“The usual contingent of New South Wales buyers were complemented by a number of interstate trainers, including Tony Noonan, Robert Smerdon and Nigel Blackiston, who all secured horses today,”

Today’s session was topped by Turangga Farm’s Strategic colt from the Archway mare Menin Gate, which sold for $67,500.

He was one of six yearlings to sell for $50,000 or more today.

Horses passed in today are available for sale via the Inglis Make an Offer service.

The Scone Yearling Sale continues on Sunday from 10.30am.

The focus will be heavily on Inglis graduates at tomorrow’s Scone Cup meeting, with the running of the $770,000 Horsezone.com.au Inglis Guineas (3yo) and $100,000 Inglis Insurance Scone Challenge (2yo).
