Scone Carnival & Yearling Sale approaching fast

The 2012 Scone Race Club’s two-day carnival, featuring the Inglis Challenge and Inglis Guineas, which flows into the Inglis HTBA Scone Yearling Sale, is fast approaching.

The carnival kicks-off next Friday May 18 with Emirates Park Scone Cup Day. A feature on the Friday will be the $100,000 Inglis Challenge (1100m) restricted to 2YOs nominated to the Inglis Race Series which were offered for sale at last year’s Inglis HTBA Scone Yearling Sale or the Inglis Australian Bloodstock Sale.

The Challenge, which is always a highly competitive affair, is a great opportunity to achieve returns to owners as evidenced last year by the Jenny Graham trained Alcancia (pictured). The Port Macquarie based filly’s win twelve months ago took her prizemoney earnings past $100,000, a great return on the $6,500 the Danbird filly cost at the Scone Yearling Sale in 2010.

Currently sitting at the top of the order of entry for the 2012 Inglis Challenge is the unbeaten Snitzel filly Tinszelda, from the stable of leading local trainer Rodney Northam who enjoyed success in this race two years ago with Okane.

The final race in the Inglis Race Series for nominated graduates of 2010 Inglis Yearling Sales is the $500,000 Inglis Guineas (1400m). Scheduled alongside the Listed Coolmore Dark Jewel Classic on Scone Race Club’s stand-alone Saturday meeting, the Inglis Guineas is restricted to 3YOs nominated to the Inglis Race Series.

Expected to headline the nominations to compete for the rich prizemoney on offer is last start Gosford Guineas winner Pampelonne. The Rock of Gibraltar gelding, raced by the former Chairman of Racing NSW Alan Bell, will be attempting to emulate the feat of last year’s winner Sincero by completing the Gosford Guineas-Inglis Guineas double.

Another last start stakes winner expected to take her place in the Guineas field is Group 2 winning filly Colorado Claire. A win in the Inglis Guineas by the daughter of Hussonet will also ensure her trainer John O’Shea is awarded the $50,000 Inglis Trainer Bonus for the trainer with the most wins in each series.

Nominations for the $500,000 Inglis Guineas (3YO) and $100,000 Inglis Challenge (2YO) close at 11am on Monday 14 May 2012. For Inglis Race Series eligibility enquiries email raceseries@inglis.com.au

Following the Scone Race Club Carnival is the 2012 edition of the Inglis HTBA Scone Yearling Sale, which gets underway at 11am on Sunday May 20 at White Park, Scone.
