Colin Scott-trained Speediness breaks a 14 month drought in the Pink Ribbon Cup at Caulfield

Speediness returned to the winner’s stall for the first time in more than 12 months with an impressive victory in today’s feature $120,000 Listed Pink Ribbon Cup (1400m) at Caulfield.

Trainer Colin Scott said the six-year-old son of Testa Rossa would now head to Scone on Monday for the Listed Rowley Mile (1600m) at Hawkesbury on May 4 and the Listed Scone Cup (1600m) on May 17.

“He’s been showing it on the track, the horse looks great, his works been great and it’s just nice to have him back,” Scott said.

“It was probably my fault that he didn’t finish closer first up, I was just a little worried he was a bit underdone. Second up he was caught wide and never had a chance but today was his day.

“To Dan’s credit he said after he got off him at Moonee Valley that ‘this just wins next start’ so I’m glad he was right.”

After coming out of the barriers a length behind the rest of the field, Stackhouse allowed Speediness ($10) to make ground along the rail before settling in fifth position on the inside.

Shuffled back to last as the field rounded the home turn, once the gap appeared at the top of the home straight, Speediness finished powerfully to beat the leader Parthian ($15) by half a length with the favourite Club Command ($1.95F) a nose away in third position.

Speaking after the victory, Stackhouse admitted he thought he was in trouble after Speediness missed the start.

“I thought we were in a little bit of trouble after the start but he’s a really good horse and he’s shown what he can do today,” Stackhouse.

“When he let down he gave me a really nice feel.”

The win was the second leg of a double for Stackhouse, who earlier claimed the third race on the program aboard the Peter Moody-trained Cosmic Causeway.

Stackhouse wasn’t the only rider to grab a double at Caulfield today with Billy Egan twice providing an upset result.

Egan first partnered Essendon Mazda 55 Second Challenge champion Vatican to win the fourth event on the card before also scoring aboard Arousing Suspicion in race seven.

The first time he’s ridden a metropolitan double as a senior jockey, Egan said it was even more satisfying after having ridden winners for two of his biggest supporters in Byron Cozamanis and Paul Rocke.

“It’s great to get the results for the two guys that I’m putting in the work for,” Egan said.
