Sea Diamond Wins Again

Four year-old Anabaa (USA) gelding Sea Diamond made it four wins from six starts when he scored a stylish half length win over 1400 metres at Sha Tin onSunday, his half-brother set to be popular at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Trained by John Moore and partnered by Tim Clark, Sea Diamond cruised home for another good win despite a few difficulties getting clear running in the straight.

"He was due to come back from his spell in October, but he was full of mucus and blood and we had to scratch him," Mooretold South China Morning Post.

"He had a pretty decent bacterial infection and we couldn't seem to get him over it. So that's the reason he hasn't started his season until now - it wasn't planned that way. But he was clean when he scoped on Friday, so that was the green light to running and he's done a good job to win."

Sea Diamond (pictured as a yearling) was purchased for $200,000 from the Widden draft at Easter in 2010 and is the first foal of stakes-placed Zafonic mare Apamea (GB), a half-sister to stakes-winner Angelina Carolina tracing directly in tail female line to legendary matriarch Best in Show (USA).

The second foal from Apamea is a striking chestnut filly by Sebring that fetched $240,000 at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when snapped up by Paul Willetts.

Apamea is being given every opportunity to succeed at stud and has a Stratum yearling colt that is also headed for the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and produced another Stratum colt this spring.
