Second Railway Stakes For Luckygray

Luckygray (Bradbury’s Luck x Damah Lady) won his second Group 1 Railway Stakes in Perth on Sunday, steaming from the back of the field to land the A$1,000,000 mile.

The tough grey galloper was controversially awarded the 2011 event in the steward’s room, but there was no doubt about this year's result, with Luckygray holding a half-length margin on the line over Platinum Rock and Fire Up Fifi.

Luckygray won his first Railway under trainer Gino Poletti before being put into the care of Robert Smerdon in Melbourne. The six-year-old was later transferred to current trainer Trevor Andrews for an attempt on a second Perth feature.

“It's six weeks since he came back from Melbourne and his second run for me. He is a genuine horse who loves the Ascot mile,” said Andrews.

The win took Luckygray’s record to 13 wins and two placings from 26 starts and $2,470,000 in earnings.

The first opportunity for buyers to purchase the two million dollar earner was at the 2008 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale, where he was sold from Goodwood Farm's draft on behalf of breeder Colin McWhinney for just $31,000. Luckygray was then resold as a yearling to Gino Poletti.
