Selective buying continues on Day Two of Easter Broodmare Sale

A further 130 fillies and mares were sold on the second day of the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale at Newmarket, taking the overall sales gross past $13 million.

Buyers from Western Australia, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, New South Wales, Tasmania, South Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, the Philippines and Hong Kong were all active during today’s Select Session.

“There are certainly plenty of buyers here at the sale, but there is a clear preference for proven producers, young mares with a pedigree straight off the track or in foal to stallions that have been popular with yearling sale buyers,” said Inglis Bloodstock Director Jonathan D’Arcy.

“The marketplace for commercial mares has been discerning for the last few years, but there are always bargains to be found amongst the less commercial lots, such as So You Think’s dam Triassic, which as the dam of seven foals was snapped up for $16,000 here before her successful mating with High Chaparral,” D’Arcy adds.

Two quality lots sold for $190,000 and $180,000 to top Wednesday’s selling. Legal Consent (Lot 350), the dam of Group 1 winner Dreamaway, topped the session when sold in foal to Lonhro, while well-bred mare Kapcher (Lot 337) proved popular in foal to Artie Schiller.

Online bidding was busy today with 106 lots receiving bids online and 31 lots being sold to an online bidder.

Fillies and mares that passed-in during the first two days of the sale are available via Inglis’ Make-An-Offer Service.

The 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale concludes tomorrow, Thursday April 18, with the remaining 80 Select Session mares (Lots 401 to 480) followed by the 89 General Session mares; Lots 481 to 557 and Lots 566 to 577

The final day of the Easter Broodmare Sale will again be broadcast on InglisTV, with Online Bidding and Make-An-Offer available for those buyers unable to make it to Newmarket.
