Shamardal Mare Explodes at Ascot

The Shamardal (USA) mare Premardal remains on track to snare a $100,000 bonus after another highly impressive victory in Saturday's $80,000 Starstruck Classic at Ascot.

After capturing the Jungle Dawn Stakes at her most recent start she needs to bag the La Trice Classic on December 22 to earn the bonus. In fact she may well have earned the bonus already if it had gone to plans in the Jungle Mist Stakes.

"It would have been nice to be going for the bonus today, she was desperately unlucky first up," trainer Todd Harvey said.

“It goes without saying she will go onto the La Trice Classic. We're very happy with the win today and Clint rated her well.”

Bred by Darley Stud, Premardal was among the Swettenham Stud draft at the 2008 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale where she was knocked down to Edwards Racing for $135,000.

She is the fifth foal of the imported Rainbow Quest mare Prestigious, a three-quarter sister to champion Arazi and a half-sister to Sussex Stakes (G1) winner Noverre.

Prestigious has produced just one live foal since Premardal and that is a yearling sister to the Jungle Dawn Classic heroine.

Premardal comes from the first crop of Darley Stud's emerging stallion Shamardal (USA) (pictured). Also among his first crop was Epsom Handicap (G1) winner Captain Sonador and dual Group 1 winner Faint Perfume.
