Sincero catches his bunny

Racenet - Clinton Payne - Sunday, 26 December 2010

Wyong trainer Stephen Farley wanted Sincero to be forced to chase and his wish was granted at Randwick on Boxing Day when his gun three-year-old was given a fight.

Lumping 60.5kg at his third run in 16 days, Sincero came from last to beat the Gai Waterhouse-trained Teardrop Rock in the www.royalrandwick.com.au Handicap at his first attempt at 1600m.

“He needed a bunny to chase so that was great,” Farley said. “Gai’s horses are always hard fit and tough to run down, so I’m very happy to see him show that sort of will to win.”

After being four wide at the run into the straight, Sincero cut back Teardrop Rock’s lead with every stride before levelling up the leader with 100 metres to go and, in a driving finish, the short favourite prevailed.

Sincero defeated Teardrop Rock with Winning Glory a long way back in third. The race was run in the handy time of 1.34.53, which took almost two seconds off the class record.

“It’s not often you see a horse race and win three weeks in a row, carrying big weights, so that is very satisfying,” Farley said.

“He’ll go to the paddock for a month now and have a well-earned break before we get him back to be prepared for his next campaign.”

During the autumn, Farley will prepare Sincero for a shot at three rich three-year-old races consisting of the $250,000 Gosford Guineas (1200m) before the $150,000 Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) and culminating with the Inglis Scone Guineas (1600m).
