Golden Slipper winner Polar Success featured at Randwick on Wednesday with a smart winner when the John O’Shea trained Polarmore saluted at his second start.
A three year-old colt by More Than Ready (USA), Polarmore improved on his debut third to surge away and win the 1150 metre maiden by a length and three-quarters, but his trainer won’t be tempted to rush him into better company.
"He made nice improvement from his run the other day, he appreciated the three weeks between runs, perfectly ridden by James and a nice progressive horse," O'Shea said.
"I think he needs to get some experience under his belt and he has got to still learn his trade.
"It’s no good coming back in the autumn wanting to run in a good race with something that has only had two starts, so we will probably just try and go through his grades and build up a resume that says he is a nice horse."
A $500,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Twin Palms Stud draft for Segenhoe Thoroughbreds, Polarmore is a half-brother to stakes-placed Polaway and is the fourth winner from four foals to race from Polar Success.
He’s certainly bred to go fast and that was the opinion of his rider James McDonald.
"I think he is a genuine sprinter, I'd be recommend that they keep him to the shorter distances," he said.
