Snitzel filly tops March (Late) Sale

The last-start winner Washington Lilac (Snitzel) topped today’s Inglis Digital March (Late) Online Sale, selling to Silverdale Farm for $172,500.

Offered by TFI, Washington Lilac is a three-quarter sister to G1 winner Qafila, making her a valuable breeding prospect when her racing days are over.

Silverdale’s Rob Petith confirmed Washington Lilac would continue racing and remain with the Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman stable.

“She’s a beautiful filly with a beautiful page, she’s by Snitzel and the family has been well bred up so there’s plenty of fallback options there with her,’’ Petith said.

“We know the family well, she’s obviously a three-quarter to a Group 1 winner so when the time comes to breeding with her we’re confident she’ll make a beautiful broodmare.’’

TFI’s Sally Houldsworth was pleased with the result.

“She’s a really well-bred filly with plenty of ability and I’m sure Silverdale will have a lot of fun with her both on the track and in the breeding barn,’’ Houldsworth said.

“Inglis Digital is the ideal platform to be trading fillies like her, she went online Friday, won a race on Saturday and is now sold on Wednesday. It’s great.’’

Today’s second-top lot was the 4YO Polyglot (Lonhro), which sold to Darby Racing for $155,000.

He will remain in the Michael Freedman stable.

Polyglot was part of a 15-strong Godolphin draft which grossed $447,750, to the delight of Racing and Bloodstock Manager Jason Walsh.

“We met the market at every level and there were some really good results in there overall and some good opportunities for the new purchasers to enjoy a lot of success,’’ Walsh said.

“It’s a great insight into the platform and the business that can be done on Inglis Digital and we’re really happy with today’s outcomes.’’

On Polyglot, Walsh added: “He’s been a really good horse to us for a number of seasons, he’ll stay in the same stable for his new ownership group and we wish them all the best with him.’’

Scott Darby, who was at Riverside today inspecting yearlings ahead of the Easter Yearling Sale, couldn’t have been happier to secure Polyglot.

“We’ve had great success off the platform, particularly from Godolphin drafts, horses like Sandpaper who’s a Stakes winner since so hopefully Polyglot follows suit,’’ Darby said.

“We actually got a call from Michael Freedman who tipped us into Polyglot, said he’s a beautiful horse with still plenty of racing left in him and then the next day [jockey] Tommy Berry rang to recommend the horse as well so we were very keen.

“His form is outstanding, finishing 2nd to Mal Coupe who came out and ran 2nd in a Stakes race on Saturday, he also ran 2nd to Catch The Glory who came out and won the [G3] Birthday Card Stakes on Saturday, he’s a very nice horse with some great form lines.

“He’s a great horse to purchase because he’s only won the two races so he’s only rated a BM72 so we’ve got plenty of options and plenty of class races to target with him. He’s already run 4th in a Group race so hopefully we can get him back to Stakes grade.’’

Other lots of significance today included Newfoundland – which sold to Shane Jackson for $110,000 – Wentworth Falls ($105,000) and Buckeye ($100,000), taking to 146 the number of six-figure lots sold on the platform since 2025

In total the March (Late) Sale grossed $3,257,000.

Entries are now open for the Inglis Digital April (Early) Sale and will remain so for the next fortnight until midnight on Wednesday April 8.

The Sale will run from April 10-15.
