Snitzerland On Target For Danehill Win

Snitzerland looks set to continue on her winning way when she lines up in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Saturday.

The Gerald Ryan-trained galloper, who finished second behind Pierro in the Golden Slipper resumed in good order with an outstanding win in the San Domenico Stakes last start and will step out a dominant short priced favourite on Saturday.

“There are a handful of colts in the race that are on the up but I am confident she will run really well but $1.70 looks a bit short to me,” Ryan told Radio Sports National.

“She has come on really well since her last start and she had a soft trial leading into her first race and came on really well after that,” he added.

“They might say she had it all her own way in the San Domenico but she was running time and she has done very well since.”

The three-year-old filly has won three of her six career starts and a win on Saturday will see her prizemoney crack the $1 million mark.

Damien Oliver will take the ride for the first time with Corey Brown suspended and Ryan said she is no certainty to lead them up.

“She worked very well here on Monday at Rosehill before she went down to Melbourne and she hasn’t missed a beat since she has been down there.

“I haven’t really worked it out but she doesn’t have to lead we didn’t intent to lead last start but they handed up to us but she is likely to be in the first three.”

Snitzerland is currently holding $1.70 favouritism for the race ahead of the undefeated Psychic Mick ($9) and the Peter Snowden-trained Rusambo ($9).

Gerald Ryan said her next target is likely to be the Champagne Stakes for 3yo fillies at Moonee Valley in three weeks time.
