Snitzerland too fast, too good

Trainer Gerald Ryan and jockey Corey Brown both suggested Snitzerland is now ready to stretch her brilliance to 1400m, but not before the filly gets her chance in next month’s Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.

SNITZERLAND ($125,000 2011 Premier, 3f Snitzel-Monte Rosa) made it three wins from as many starts this time in when proving too speedy for her rivals in the Group 3 Champagne Stakes at Moonee Valley tonight.

The Bellerive Stud graduate had already topped the $1million in earnings and notched three Group wins before tonight, but the goal remains firmly on the elusive Group 1. At her only previous attempt at the top level, Snitzerland finished within a half length of Pierro in the Golden Slipper.

She will run next in the Blue Sapphire at Caulfield before heading to Flemington.

“There’s still a little bit to go with her, but I’m happy where she is. She’s going terrific,” Ryan said.

“We were just as strong (as Hoss Amor) and we held them to the line. Watching the race, she might be starting to look for seven furlongs now.”

Brown concurred with those comments and suggested she may not have been totally focused under the lights tonight.

“It was a good win. When you bring her back she’s very relaxed and I reckon she’s a better chase horse too. Later on she will get up over a mile,” he said.

Hoss Amor battled on solidly to hold down second, showing she’s ready to build on her three stakes wins in Queensland during the carnival. Three Bridges have a Wanted half-brother to Hoss Amor nominated for next year’s Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

Arrowfield’s Snitzel made it a race to race double when SNITZEM ($160,000 2010 Easter, 4h Snitzel-Jubilee Kate) took out the first heat of the 55 Second Challenge.

Snitzem was the second leg of a winning double at the meeting for Spicer Thoroughbreds, who also secured runaway winner TOKUGAWA ($55,000 2009 Easter II, 5g Choisir-Tirumani) as a yearling. It completed a huge day for the blue and yellow colours, which had earlier tasted victory at Geelong with Sekiguchi and Wolfpack.
