Snowdrift Tops Day Two of Easter Broodmare Sale

Grand producer Snowdrift, dam of Group 1 winner Snowland, Golden Slipper placed Portillo and stakes winner Snippetson, topped today’s session of the 2010 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale, when knocked down to Kieran Moore Bloodstock for $775,000.

She was sold in foal to Red Ransom, thus carrying a full-relation to Portillo.

Snowdrift (pictured) was offered for sale by Tyreel Stud, who have also had Lucida sell for $750,000 and Group 2 Wakeful Stakes winner Quays for $490,000 at this year’s sale.

Other top selling mares today included Soul Singer, in foal to Charge Forward carrying a full-relation to star two-year-old Solar Charged, picked up by Coolmore Stud for $550,000.

Stakes winners Readyor and She Will Be Loved also topped the $500,000 mark.

"As usual there was great competition for proven producers and quality fillies straight off the track which demonstrates good market confidence," said Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster

"On the other side of the equation this sale has a proven track record for rewarding buyers with smaller budgets who take a chance on pedigrees upgrading."

"Today’s clearance rate of 78% bodes well moving into the final two days of the sale, and what’s more pleasing is that Lucida was sold privately since yesterday, pushing Day One’s clearance to 88%.

"Again our Sale Day live and online bidding services will be provided over the remaining two days of the sale for those not able to make it here at Newmarket"

All fillies and mares that passed in over the last two days are also available via the Inglis Make an Offer service.

The sale continues tomorrow from 10.30am.
