Soapy Star walks away with the cash in Melbourne

Kris Lees plundered Moonee Valley on Friday night with three-year-old filly Soapy Star taking home a $100,000 Inglis Bonus for her victory in the MVRC LF Signs Inglis Bonus over 1514m.

Soapy Star ($12,000 2011 Scone, 3f Dubawi-Babassu) settled just in behind the speed in the valuable event and once finally clear in the straight surged home to grab General Groove on the line. Under The Leaner was less than a length away in third.

The Newcastle trained filly has now earned over 20 times her yearling sale purchase price on the racetrack, with today’s Inglis Bonus and first place prizemoney taking her earnings past $260,000. A great result for connections who paid just $12,000 for the daughter of Dubawi from the draft of Adelargo Breeding Enterprises at the 2011 Inglis Scone Yearling Sale.

Owned by Indian Pacific Bloodstock Synd (Mgr: T Worner & D Fitzgerald), Soapy Star has now won five and placed another four times in her eleven career starts.

Soapy Star hails from the family of Ruffles, which was trained to win the Group 1 VRC Newmarket Handicap by Kris Lees’ father Max Lees.

The next $100,000 Inglis Race Series Bonus will be on a three-year-old Benchmark 75 Handicap over 1350m at Rosehill Gardens on 19 January 2013.

Two-year-olds next event in the series comes up on Villiers Day at Warwick Farm on 22 December 2012, where eligible horses will be able to compete for $250,000 on the Restricted Listed Inglis Nursery over 1000m.
