Exciting filly Soldi (Tassort) made it two Stakes wins from as many starts to begin her career with a comprehensive display in today’s $400,000 Listed Inglis Banner at Flemington.
Soldi debuted with a narrow victory in the Listed Debutant Stakes last month and proved to be far superior to her rivals down the Flemington straight today, leading all-the-way for a strong three-length win.
Soldi’s trainers Ben, Will and JD Hayes of Lindsay Park purchased Soldi – in conjunction with Dean Hawthorne – for $310,000 at this year’s Premier Yearling Sale, where she was offered by her breeder Segenhoe Stud.
She has already earned her purchase price back from just two starts and seen her residual value skyrocket.
Soldi (pictured) defeated Goddess Kay (Frankel) and She’s Supreme (Exceedance) today.
Interestingly Goddess Kay sold for $440,000 at last month’s Inglis Ready2Race Sale to Inglis’ Japanese representative Satomi Oka and Kazufumi Daicho and is now Stakes placed at her first start.
Winning co-trainer Ben Hayes was “very confident’’ Soldi would win today’s Banner, a race the stable has now won three times in the past five years following the success of Bold Bastille (2023) and Arkansaw Kid (2022).
“We think she’s a really exciting horse,’’ Hayes said.
“[Part owner] John O’Neill and the crew have been great to us and to get another nice winner for them is fantastic, we’re thrilled and really excited about her.
“This is nearly Lindsay Park’s favourite race, we’ve had a great record in it over the past few years…and it’s just a very good opportunity to get a horse running for such great prizemoney.
“We purchased Soldi from Inglis Premier and only had a budget of $250,000 and if it wasn’t for Johnny [O’Neill] sitting on the table with us we wouldn’t have purchased her for $310,000 so thanks to Johnny for that because we’ve got an exciting filly on our hands.
“She was one of our favourite fillies at the sale, she looked like an early runner and she’s proved it.’’
Soldi’s part-owner Ben Wilson – who also had a share in Bold Bastille - added: “Having a winner in Melbourne Cup Week is one of the biggest thrills you can get in racing.
“The Inglis Banner is a very good race to win, one of my favourites without a doubt. The whole Inglis Race Series is fantastic, the prizemoney is incredible and some of the incentives provided are as good as you get in racing.’’
The Inglis Pink Bonus was also being contested in the Banner for eligible horses that have minimum 75% female ownership.
The first eligible runner home was the 4th placed Miss Ruthless for Richard and Will Freedman, earning her connections an extra $20,000.
Prior to the running of the Banner, UK media personality Frankie Foster was again the guest judge of the Best Turned Out award, whereby the strapper of the pick of the yard in an Inglis Race Series event wins $500.
Foster chose the Liam Birchley-trained colt Steel Point as the best presented, earning his strapper Alice Barnett the cash prize.
The next Inglis Race Series race is the Inglis Nursery at Randwick on December 12.
