Solid Start For Classic Yearling Sale

The Sydney Classic Sale opened in Sydney this afternoon achieving solid results noting the current economic climate, with 83 yearlings selling in today’s shortened session for $2,104,500 at an average of $25,355 and median of $20,000.

The pleasing clearance rate of 78% is on par with the first day of last years Classic Sale, with more private sales likely to be completed on passed in lots as the sale progresses.

Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster said the opening session had held up very well given the current climate.

“In percentage terms, it’s ahead of other sales we’ve seen so far this year and the buyers are very happy with the value they are getting from this sale which continually yields results on the track,” Webster said.

Widden Stud sold the day’s highest priced lot, a chestnut colt by Flying Spur from the Lujain mare Cloudwing, which fell to the bid of Patinack Farm for $80,000.

Lot 59, Wimmera Park Stud’s full-sister to top sprinter Keen Commander by Commands from Bonne Bouche, was the second highest priced yearling today, selling for $72,500.

The sale continues from 11am tomorrow, with Lots 121 through 397 being offered, with a likely finishing time around 8pm.

Buyers are also reminded that it’s not too late to register for Online Bidding for this sale.

And for those buyers unable to attend the Newmarket complex, be sure to check out the new Sale Day Live coverage of the sale on the Inglis website, with a number of different camera angles to choose from, in addition to up-to-the-minute sale results and statistics.
