Solid results were recorded on the opening day of the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale in Sydney, where 125 Super Select Session mares were sold for $10,882,000.
“Noting we had fewer top class fillies off the track than last year, the young mares and proven producers that vendors brought here today did sell well at improved clearance rate of 70% to a strong local, interstate and international buying bench,” said Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster.
Group winner and proven producer One World (Lot 127) topped the day’s session when selling to Solis Bloodstock of USA for $720,000. Sold by Coolmore Stud as agent, the blue-blooded daughter of Danehill was Tuesday’s only offering in foal to Lonhro, the sire of Saturday’s Group 1 Doncaster Handicap favourite Pierro.
Solis Bloodstock also signed for the day’s second top lot, Tyreel Stud’s stakes placed half-sister to Shamardal in Diamond Necklace (Lot 53), which was purchased in foal to Commands for $540,000.
UK bloodstock agent David Redvers snapped up Group 3 winning Flying Spur mare Rosa’s Spur (Lot 155) from Michael Pitt’s Dispersal Sale for $460,000. The young mare is already the dam of Listed winner Member’s Joy and was sold in foal to More Than Ready, with the resultant offspring to carry the same cross as Golden Slipper winner and now exciting young sire Sebring.
Young mares carrying positive tests to exciting first season sires were popular with buyers on Tuesday. Well-related mare Snowgums (Lot 173) was sold in foal to Sepoy for $440,000, stakes placed mare Schiffer (Lot 163) was sold in foal to So You Think for $350,000, while three mares in foal to Inglis Easter Yearling Sale graduate Foxwedge were much sought after; How Funny (Lot 84) sold for $260,000, Cinque (Lot 39) for $150,000, and Social Scene (Lot 175) sold for $120,000.

The 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale continues from 10:30am tomorrow with 200 of the Select Session mares; Lots 201 to 400
The sale then concludes on Thursday April 18 with the remaining 80 Select Session mares (Lots 401 to 480) followed by the 89 General Session mares; Lots 481 to 557 and Lots 566 to 577
“There is still plenty of shrewd purchasing to be completed over the coming days, with many mares ranging from $10,000 to $150,000 tomorrow and then from $500 to $50,000 on Thursday,” said Inglis Bloodstock Director Jonathan D’Arcy.
“The dams of Black Caviar, Sepoy and So You Think were purchased from the Easter Broodmare Sale for $115,000, $55,000 and $16,000 respectively and I expect many more bargains to be picked up this year,” added D’Arcy.
