South African-based colt snares 31st Inglis 2008 G1 Win

Hot on the heels of Hong Kong Sprint winner Inspiration, Le Drakkar became the latest Inglis graduate to claim International Group 1 honours when taking out the G1 Bloodstock SA Cape Guineas (1600m) at Kenilworth in South Africa at the weekend.

Overcoming barrier 16 and sustaining a long run from back in the field to take the 1600m event, the Anabaa colt is the 23 rd individual Group 1 winning Inglis graduate in 2008, with the tally of Group 1 races won now standing at 31.

LE DRAKKAR ($155,000 2007 Premier, Anabaa-My Mo Rally) was bred by Rob and Janette Hurst and offered for sale by Widden Stud, who have enjoyed a memorable year of success with Inglis graduates.

Le Drakkar is the fifth Group 1 winner prepared by Widden for Inglis Sales this year, following Triple Honour, Typhoon Zed, Whobegotyou and All Silent.

The three-year-old colt is now the winner of three races from just five outings, having secured minor placings in his other two starts.

Le Drakkar's sire Anabaa no longer shuttles to Australia, but still has two crops of yearlings to come.

The Danzig stallion has five catalogued for the 2009 Inglis Classic Sale, 11 for Premier and 21 nominations for Easter.

Like the Inglis Classic Sale, which had its 9 th and 10 th stakes winners for the season with a Randwick Black Type double on Saturday, graduates of the Melbourne Premier Sale are also enjoying a stellar season.

Led by Group 1 winners Weekend Hussler and Littorio, 13 individual Premier graduates have won 16 stakes races in Australia already this season.

The 2009 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, comprising 780 lots, will be held at Oaklands over four sessions from Sunday March 1 to Wednesday March 4.
