Speed Baby Wins Another Malaysian Group One

Fastnet Rock five year-old Speed Baby started his racing career in Malaysia where he won six of his first eight starts before switching to Singapore where he won the Singapore Patrons Bowl Sng Gr 1, but he was back in Malaysia and in top form last weekend winning the Piala Emas Sultan Selangor Mal Gr 1.

Ridden by Noel Callow, the Steve Burridge trained Speed Baby made light work of his top weight of 59 kg to win the 2000 metre feature by the best part of three lengths and has the overall record of eight wins from 22 starts, taking his career prizemoney earnings to the equivalent of A$737,275.

Speed Baby was a $280,000 purchase from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for Malaysian based buyer CP Bey.

Bred by Tim Hughes and Ron Dufficy, Speed Baby (pictured as a yearling) is the first foal of Group III placed Twisted Heart, a daughter of leading US sire Distorted Humor (USA) from the family of Group II winners Katima and Deferential.

Twisted Heart has a weanling full sister to Speed Baby, but will not have a foal this spring after having year off in 2011.
