Spot The Rock delivers at Scone

Racenet - Clinton Payne - Saturday, 14 May 2011

The Tim Martin-trained Spot The Rock has discarded his maiden status in emphatic style in the Vinery Stud Maiden Plate (1300m) at Scone on Saturday.

The son of Fastnet Rock came into his first-up run with strong form references finishing behind the likes of Chance Bye, Rain Affair and Zutara at his only three starts and his class was evident when leading all the way to score in effortless fashion.

"We targeted this race being Saturday prizemoney and it's great when things like this come off,” Martin said.

"He's a horse I've always had plenty of time for and he's away now.”

Spot The Rock defeated the Gerald Ryan-trained The Reveller with Fill The Page from the Barbera Joseph and Paul Jones stable in third.

Martin said he would use the current campaign for Spot The Rock to "repay his owners” by keeping the gelding in Sydney and attempt to "work through his classes”.

"He won't go to Brisbane,” he said.

"He's a BOBS horse so we'll just stay home and work through his classes.

"These races are worth $60,000 with the BOBS so if we can pick up a couple more it keeps everyone happy.”
