High class Melbourne filly Fontiton (Turffontein-Personal Ensign, by Rubiton) is likely to be kept to sprint distances in the spring with the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington a possible target, reports ANZ Bloodstock News.
The Turffontein filly has been back in work for two weeks after undergoing surgery to remove two bone chips in a front fetlock.
Smerdon had hoped that Fontiton, hitherto known as a sprinter, could stretch her brilliance out to a mile so she could be considered for races such as the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m), but he has his doubts.
"She probably won't have a lot of racing through the spring and we'll probably stay to the shorter trips," Smerdon said.
"I think she's a bit late coming in for the Thousand Guineas and we don't know whether she runs a mile."
