Star Jockeys Shoot For Glory At Canterbury Park This Saturday

News from Australian Turf Club - Thursday, 23 July, 2015

The popular and intimate Canterbury Park racecourse will be the stage this Saturday as three of Sydney’s star jockeys continue a compelling battle for premiership honours at the second last metropolitan meeting of the season.

The hot action on the track comes as the Australian’s Turf Club’s Winter Racing Offers continue to warm the pockets of punters, including a Super Saver deal of $45 value for just $20.

General admission customers receive entry to the course, a standard drink voucher and Vili’s Pie voucher, a racebook, and another entry ticket to a future Saturday race meeting before the end of August, all for just $20, and available at the gates this Saturday.

The Australian Turf Club is also offering $5 selected tap beers at public and Members bars this Saturday.

A special menu for ATC Members has been created for the Guineas Restaurant on the top level of the Canterbury Park grandstand, offering sweeping views of the racecourse.

On the turf, jockey Hugh Bowman – after riding four of the seven winners at Warwick Farm yesterday – is now the TAB.com.au favourite at $2.30 to take out the title, with a full book of eight rides on Saturday, and sitting 1.5 wins ahead of James McDonald and Blake Shinn.

Shinn, at $3.00 with TAB.com.au on its racing “extras page’’ to win the Sydney Jockey Premiership, has six rides this Saturday. McDonald, at $2.90 to win the premiership, has just five rides on Saturday, but each runner is in the leading three chances in betting.

The three jockeys are all on a host of strong chances in tab.com.au markets, including the top three in the first race, the McGrath Estate Agents Handicap, with McDonald on the highly-rated Godolphin runner Inner Circle ($2.60 TAB Fixed Odds), Shinn on Chris Waller’s Vanbrugh ($3.40 TAB Fixed Odds) and Bowman on Tatoosh ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

TAB.com.au’s Glenn Munsie said punters had been able to seek out value from each of the three jockeys in premiership markets, which will continue to be updated after every race on Saturday.

“Between Saturday and Wednesday, all three have been favourite at one stage, which shows how closely fought the premiership race has been,’’ Mr Munsie said.

“Once the races start on Saturday, punters will be able to call 133 390 all throughout the afternoon to back any of the three that they think can take the title.

“Punters can also place bets on the premiership market on EBTs on course and in TAB agencies.’’

A $100,000 jackpot on the TAB Quaddie is also on offer as Canterbury Park, renowned as Sydney’s best racing surface, hosts a rare Saturday meeting, with gates opening at 11am for the first race at 12.15pm and the final event at 4.40pm.

Australian Turf Club Head of Commercial Rohan Sawyer said Saturday race meetings continued to offer great value for an afternoon of live racing entertainment, as well as all of the comforts of a local club or pub, including Victorian races live on the large infield screen this Saturday.

“There are great value offers for everyone this Saturday at Canterbury Park, which is a spectator friendly venue whether you watch races up in the grandstand, or on the lawns trackside,’’ Mr Sawyer said.

“The enclosed betting ring on the ground floor is close to all of the bars and food outlets which makes Canterbury Park a great place to enjoy all the action on and off track.’’

Canterbury Park offers free parking at the course and trains run regularly from the city to nearby Canterbury Station.
