Future racetrack stars to be offered at The Star Ready2Race Sale were on display this week at breeze ups held at Cambridge, New Zealand and Canterbury, Sydney.
19 quality two-year-olds were put their paces on Monday in New Zealand, while 69 lots breezed in front of a strong crowd in Sydney this afternoon. Both were conducted on the grass course proper.
“Both days have flowed very smoothly which is a testament to the professional nature of the vendors, their quality young horses and the race clubs. With nine of the top ten two-year-old sires represented in the catalogue we are naturally very excited and even more so after seeing the outstanding racetrack talent at the breeze ups this week,” said Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster.
The fastest breeze recorded at Canterbury (Slow 6) on Friday was 10.52 seconds clocked by the low flying Fastnet Rock colt from stakes winner Dakota Sue, which is catalogued as Lot 24. His breeze up partner (Lot 58) by Myboycharlie from Joie de Verve recorded a time of 10.62. Both outstanding colts will be offered by Glastonbury Farms at The Star Ready2Race Sale on Tuesday 7 October in Sydney.
“Just a few days ago in the USA the industry witnessed US$750,000 Fasig-Tipson Select Breeze Up Sale graduate Competitive Edge run away with the Hopeful Stakes at Group 1 level. We’ve purposely designed our Ready2Race Sale to be THE select breeze up of Australasia. The aim is to unearth future superstars and Glastonbury’s colt by Fastnet Rock has pedigree, conformation and natural ability of something special,” added Webster.
Other top quality two-year-old colts to clock less than 11 seconds in their 200m breeze ups today were:
10.68 – Reward For Effort x Maid In Secret colt (Lot 72) – Jackson Bloodstock, QLD
10.74 – Nicconi x Marriage Value colt (Lot 77) – Widden Stud, NSW
10.79 – New Approach x Langness colt (Lot 63) – Glastonbury Farms, NSW
10.95 – Husson x Lemon Ruski colt (Lot 65) – Glastonbury Farms, NSW
10.99 – Snitzel x Run to the Moon (Lot 113) – A. Cook, NSW
11.48 seconds was the average time recorded at Canterbury on the Slow 6 rated track today, just 0.03 outside last year’s session which was run on a Good 3 track.
Monday’s breeze up session at Cambridge in New Zealand was run on a deteriorating Slow 8 rated surface.
Anzac Lodge’s colt by More Than Ready colt from Lady Mickataine (Lot 61) recorded the fastest time at Cambridge of 11.26 seconds. His galloping partner (Lot 37) by Dylan Thomas from Entice stopped the clock at 11.29.
Others to impress in New Zealand included Lyndhurst Farm’s colts by Magic Albert from Chai (Lot 15) and Lope de Vega from Ellexcell (Lot 31), plus Beatson Stables colts by Teofilo from Tahnee Topaz (Lot 136) and Wanted from Time And Place (Lot 142).

The third and final breeze up session for this year’s sale will be conducted at Cranbourne in Victoria on Monday 8 September. 55 lots are due to breeze at on the grass at Cranbourne. Everyone is welcome to attend and watch the quality young horses.
