Stepitup Completes Triumphant Year

Singapore’s Champion Three-Year-Old elect Stepitup (Hussonet x Ain’t Seen Nothin’) claimed his fourth Group win of the year on Sunday when winning the Gr.3 Colonial Chief Stakes over 1700m at Kranji.

The son of Hussonet had regular jockey Ivaldo Santana back in the saddle to extend their outstanding partnership to eight wins from nine starts.

Sunday’s victory over Trudeau and Street Legal has reconfirmed Santana’s belief that Stepitup will be a force to be reckoned with during the 2014 Four-Year-Old Series.

“He’s got a big, big heart and he never wants to give up. He’s back to the level he was before. He’s a very good horse, with a lot of quality,” said Santana.

Earlier this year Stepitup made a clean sweep of Singapore’s Three-Year-Old Challenge; Gr.3 Singapore Three-Year-Old Sprint (1200m), Gr.2 Singapore Three-Year-Old Classic (1400m) and Gr.1 Singapore Guineas (1600m).

Stepitup, which was purchased for $90,000 from the draft of Bellerive Stud at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, has now earned over S$850,000 in Singapore.

Racehorses sold at Inglis Select Yearling Sales have excelled at Kranji in 2013 winning 39% of the stakes races, including Better Life (Gr.1 Singapore Derby & Gr.2 Queen Elizabeth II Cup), Super Ninetyseven (Gr.1 Raffles Cup & Gr.3 Committee's Prize) and Holy Empire (Gr.3 Sass Fee Stakes).

The 2013 Singapore Racing Awards will be held on Thursday 20 February 2014.
